Carlos Alcaraz, the world number one, has dominated the tennis scene once again, securing his eighth title of the season at the Japan Open. Despite struggling with a left ankle injury earlier in the week, Alcaraz proved too strong for his opponents, including world number five Taylor Fritz, whom he defeated 6-4, 6-4 in the final. This victory showcases Alcaraz's exceptional skill and resilience, solidifying his position as the king of hard courts this season.
Alcaraz's Journey to the Title:
- Semifinal Win: Alcaraz fought back from a set down to beat Casper Ruud 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinals, improving his win record to 66 victories this season.
- Consecutive Finals: With this win, Alcaraz reached his ninth consecutive tour-level final, tying Rafael Nadal's record since 1990.
- Record-Breaking Wins: Alcaraz's victory over Ruud set a new record for the quickest player to reach 275 wins since the ATP Tour began in 1990.

The US Open champion delivered a stunning performance, showcasing power and athleticism as he lifted the trophy in Japan. With a cleverly disguised drop shot, he secured victory and then warmly embraced Fritz at the net.
This remarkable win marked the Spaniard's ninth consecutive final appearance and his tenth final of the season overall. Notably, he's followed in the footsteps of tennis legend Rafael Nadal, who achieved ten finals in a season back in 2017.

The win gave Alcaraz a measure of revenge after losing to Fritz for the first time at the Laver Cup in San Francisco two weeks ago.
Alcaraz squandered several chances to break Fritz in the first set but he made the breakthrough in the ninth game.

That left the Spaniard serving for the set, and he sealed the deal when Fritz dumped a return into the net.
Alcaraz kept his foot on the gas and broke his opponent to start the second set.
Carlos Alcaraz dominated the Japan Open final, breaking Taylor Fritz again to take a 4-1 lead and unleashing a series of powerful forehands that left Fritz struggling to keep up. Although Fritz managed to break back, it was too little, too late, as Alcaraz sealed the championship on his next service game with a cleverly disguised drop shot.

“It's been a pleasure to be able to play here in Tokyo in front of the Japanese fans,” said Alcaraz.
“I enjoyed every single second from when I stepped on the court, less the five minutes that I was on the floor with my ankle.
“The rest of the tournament, I enjoyed every single second.”
Fritz was seeking his third title of the season, following wins at Stuttgart and Eastbourne, but Alcaraz's form proved too strong. Notably, Fritz had won the Japan Open title in 2022, defeating Frances Tiafoe in straight sets. Both players will now prepare for the Shanghai Masters, where they'll face new challenges and opponents.
