The Anaheim Ducks have signed forward Mason McTavish to a six-year contract worth $42 million. McTavish, 22, was a restricted free agent and had been holding out since training camp began on September 18. He will now join the Ducks for practice on Monday and is expected to play in a preseason game before the regular season opener against Seattle on October 9.

Key Details of the Contract:

  • Contract Value: $42 million over six years
  • Average Annual Value: $7 million
  • Limited No-Trade Clause: Included in the final two seasons of the contract
  • Contract Duration: Extends through the 2030-31 season

McTavish had a breakout season last year, scoring 22 goals and accumulating 30 assists for a total of 52 points. He has spent his entire NHL career with the Ducks, who drafted him third overall in 2021. General Manager Pat Verbeek expressed satisfaction with the deal, stating that both sides worked towards a compromise to get McTavish to camp.

“I believe in the direction of this organization and the group we have in the locker room,” McTavish said. “We’re building something special, and I want to help this team take the next step toward becoming a consistent playoff contender and, ultimately, a championship team.” With this extension, McTavish is set to play a key role in the Ducks' future, potentially alongside Leo Carlsson as one of the team's top centers.

“Today is an exciting day for me and my family to commit my long-term future to the Anaheim Ducks,” said McTavish. “I believe in the direction of this organization and the group we have in the locker room. We’re building something special and I want to help this team take the next step toward becoming a consistent playoff contender and, ultimately, a championship team.”

“Mason is a key part of our team, and we're excited to reach a long-term agreement that reflects his importance to our future,” said Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek. “He's a highly skilled, physical, and competitive player who plays the game the right way. Mason has already made a significant impact at a young age, and we’re confident he’ll continue to grow into a top player as we build toward sustained success.”

Mason McTavish, the third-overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, has been making waves with his impressive performance. Since his first full season in 2022-2023, McTavish has scored 60 goals and 80 assists in 229 games, showcasing his skills as a top player.

The Anaheim Ducks had a decent run last season, finishing sixth in the Pacific Division with a record of 35-37-10. However, the team is looking to bounce back this season with a new head coach, Joel Quenneville, who was hired in May to replace Greg Cronin. Quenneville brings a wealth of experience, having previously coached the St. Louis Blues, Colorado Avalanche, Chicago Blackhawks, and Florida Panthers.

Upcoming Season

The Anaheim Ducks are set to kick off their new season on October 9th against the Seattle Kraken. This matchup will feature two new head coaches, Quenneville for the Ducks and Lane Lambert for the Kraken. The Ducks have made some notable changes to their roster, including signing veteran players like Chris Kreider and Mikael Granlund.
