Djurgarden put eight past Sirius as IFK go fourth...

Djurgården thrashed Sirius 8-2 at home, securing the biggest win of the Allsvenskan season and keeping their European hopes alive. Although they still trail IFK Göteborg, who moved closer to the top three with a 2-0 win over 10-man Öster.

The match got off to a flying start, with Djurgården scoring in the fifth minute. A corner kick was poorly cleared by Sirius, allowing Matias Siltanen to deliver a cross to the back post, where August Priske headed the ball home. This set the tone for a dominant performance by Djurgården.

August Priske was on fire, scoring a hat-trick, while Mikael Anderson and Tokmac Nguen also scored braces. Priske's first goal came in the fifth minute, and he doubled his tally in the 19th minute after the visitors' goalkeeper David Celic made a costly error. Anderson scored his first Allsvenskan goal just five minutes after Priske's opener.

IFK Göteborg, meanwhile, capitalized on Öster's numerical disadvantage after Kolbeinn Thordarsson's red card and secured a 2-0 win. This victory propels them to fourth place, narrowing the gap with the top three teams. With five rounds left, the race for European spots is heating up, and Djurgården's win keeps them within three points of third-placed AIK.

Five minutes later, the lead was doubled - this time a long throw was the visitors' undoing, as they gave Mikael Anderson space to bring the ball down and fire through a crowded box.

Still with just 19 minutes on the clock, it was 3-0, and again Siltanen was the provider for Priske, but this time he had much more to do. Cutting in from the left, his shot had no right to beat David Celic at his near post, but a howler from the goalkeeper allowed the ball to trickle through his fingers.

Sirius momentarily breathed life into the match with a stunning curling strike from Isak Bjerkebo just before the 30-minute mark. However, their hopes were quickly dashed 10 minutes later when Jeppe Okkels capitalized on a swift counter-attack, scoring the fourth goal for Djurgården and making it 4-1 heading into halftime.

Sirius managed to score another impressive goal past the hour mark, with Leo Walta's well-placed free-kick sailing over the wall. Nevertheless, Djurgården soon pulled away with three goals in the ensuing 11 minutes. A brilliant move orchestrated by Oskar Fallenius led to Tokmac Nguen scoring the fifth goal for the hosts. Just three minutes later, Nguen showcased his playmaking skills by setting up Mikael Anderson for his second goal of the match.

Anderson's impressive performance continued, but it was Priske who ultimately earned the match ball. Anderson delivered a precise cross from the right flank, and Priske outmuscled his marker to head the ball home.

The scoring was capped off in style with just under four minutes left, as Bo Hegland controlled the ball beautifully before firing a low shot past the helpless Celic, securing an emphatic 8-2 win for Djurgården.

The victory keeps Djurgården seventh in the table, but their remarkable 10-match unbeaten run has narrowed the gap to the European spots to just three points. For Sirius, the loss marks their second consecutive defeat, leaving them four points clear of the relegation zone.

The sole consolation for Sirius was that the four-point gap didn't shrink further, thanks to Göteborg's 2-0 away win over Öster. Göteborg had previously ended a strong run with a loss to Brommapojkarna, and they seemed to be feeling the effects, struggling to make progress against Öster until Ivan Kricak's red card for two bookings in four minutes early in the second half.

With Öster reduced to 10 men, Göteborg capitalized on the numerical advantage to secure a 2-0 victory. This result means Sirius' four-point cushion over the relegation zone remained intact, offering some slight relief despite their own loss to Djurgården.

Göteborg took the lead just over 10 minutes after gaining the man advantage, thanks to a fortuitous deflection. Kolbeinn Thordarsson's shot took a huge deflection off teammate Max Fenger, catching the goalkeeper off guard and dropping into the net. Although it was a lucky break, Thordarsson would ultimately seal the win with a close-range finish in the 89th minute after the home side failed to clear a free-kick.

The result means Öster's recent struggles continue. With only goal difference separating them from resurgent Degerfors, the pressure remains on Öster to pick up points. Meanwhile, the battle for European spots is heating up, with IFK now separated from third-placed AIK only by goal difference.
