Tottenham confirmed James Maddion will undergo surgery for a ruptured ACL in his right knee, an injury that could keep him sidelined for most of the season.
“We can confirm that James Maddison will undergo surgery for a ruptured Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) in his right knee,” the club announced, after the midfielder suffered the setback in a pre-season friendly against Newcastle United. This is the same knee Maddison injured in May, which forced him to miss the final part of last season.

Maddison had a standout last season, scoring 12 goals and providing 11 assists in all competitions as Spurs ended a 17-year trophy drought by winning the Europa League.
Tottenham didn't provide a specific timeline for Maddison's return, but ACL injuries typically require a lengthy recovery period, often sidelining players for at least six months before they can resume training.
Tottenham's season kicks off with a UEFA Super Cup match against Paris Saint-Germain on August 13 in Udine, Italy, followed by their Premier League opener at home against Burnley on August 16.
