Ekaterina Alexandrova dominated the match, taking a 4-2 lead with a service break to love. Marie Bouzkova struggled to keep up, but things got tougher for her when she needed a medical timeout due to the humid conditions in Monterrey.
After the break, Bouzkova showed resilience, holding serve to reduce the gap and taking the eighth game. However, it wasn't enough, as Alexandrova sealed the first set. Unfortunately for Bouzkova, she was unable to continue and retired at the start of the second set, handing Alexandrova a win with a final set score of 6-3, 0-0.
Ekaterina Alexandrova expressed her disappointment after reaching the final, saying, “This is not the way I wanted to reach the final. I hope she recovers,” regarding Marie Bouzkova's injury retirement. Despite the unfortunate circumstances, Alexandrova will now face compatriot Diana Shnaider in the final.
Diana Shnaider secured her spot in the final with a 6-3, 7-6(8) win over American Alycia Parks, setting up an all-Russian matchup with Alexandrova. Meanwhile, Bouzkova, who retired due to injury against Alexandrova, is scheduled to compete in the first round of the US Open, which begins on Sunday.
