Finland smashed China 42-0 in the men's Floorball competition at the 2025 World Games, setting a new world record for the largest margin of victory in men's international matches. This thrashing surpassed Finland's previous record of 38-0, which was set against Ukraine in 2014.
The humiliation for China and Finland's impressive display are further magnified by the fact that this record-breaking win was achieved in a shortened game format, with matches played over three 15-minute periods instead of the standard three 20-minute periods.
The 12th World Games kicks off tomorrow, but action has already begun with the men's and women's Floorball competitions getting underway a day early.
Finland, the reigning World Champions, were heavy favorites against China in their Group B opener, marking the two teams' first-ever meeting.
Finland's first period saw them score 10+ goals within 15 minutes. They followed up with a 14-0 win in the second period. In the final 15 minutes, Finland scored 18 unanswered goals, finishing the match 42-0.
Every outfield player for Finland scored, led by Juuso Ahola with six goals, while Joona Rantala and Luukas Hyvärinen each netted five. Juho Repo marked his international debut with a hat-trick. Finland's next challenge is Canada on Friday, followed by a group match against the Czech Republic, who earlier thrashed Canada 29-1.
Finland dominated the women's competition, thrashing Canada 36-0, just one goal shy of their own women's international record of 37-0 set in 2019 against Austria. They may get another chance to break the record on Friday against Singapore, who lost 21-0 to the Czech Republic in Group B.
