Chelsea bounced back from a tough start to the season, securing a convincing 5-1 win over West Ham United at the London Stadium. This victory marked Chelsea's first win of the season and left West Ham with a record-equalling ninth instance of starting a Premier League campaign with back-to-back defeats.

Chelsea's path to victory wasn't without its challenges. The team was dealt a blow before the match even began when Cole Palmer withdrew from the starting lineup due to an injury sustained during the warm-up. Despite this setback, Enzo Maresca's side showed resilience and determination.

West Ham's defensive woes continued, with the team conceding eight goals in their opening two Premier League games. Lucas Paqueta gave West Ham an early lead with a powerful strike from distance, but Chelsea quickly responded. Joao Pedro headed Chelsea level, before Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernandez scored from close range to leave Chelsea 3-1 up at halftime.

Chelsea's dominance continued into the second half, with Moises Caicedo and Trevoh Chalobah scoring from set pieces to seal a 5-1 victory. The win will provide a significant boost to Chelsea's morale and confidence, while West Ham's manager Graham Potter will face increasing pressure to improve the team's defensive performance.

West Ham United took the lead in the sixth minute, courtesy of a stunning strike from Lucas Paquetá. The Brazilian midfielder unleashed a powerful shot with his left foot, firing an “absolute rocket“ into the net to give the Hammers the advantage.

However, West Ham's defensive vulnerabilities soon came to light, allowing Chelsea to equalize quickly. Marc Cucurella flicked on Pedro Neto's corner, directing the ball towards Joao Pedro, who headed home his first goal against West Ham. The hosts' defense struggled to cope with Chelsea's set-piece threat, ultimately leading to the equalizing goal.

The match's intense opening 20 minutes took a dramatic turn when Niclas Füllkrug appeared to double West Ham's lead with a powerful left-footed strike. However, the joy was short-lived, as VAR intervened to disallow the goal due to Jean-Clair Todibo being deemed offside in the build-up. The decision was a significant turning point in the match.

The disallowed goal proved to be a momentum killer for West Ham, and Chelsea capitalized on the opportunity. Just 17 minutes after West Ham's disallowed goal, Chelsea completed the turnaround when Pedro Neto scored, giving Chelsea a 2-1 lead. Neto's goal marked a significant shift in momentum, with Chelsea taking control of the match and West Ham struggling to respond.

Chelsea's attacking prowess was on full display as they took the lead. Joao Pedro was allowed to slip into the box unmarked, where he volleyed home Pedro Neto's cross with ease. The Hammers' defense appeared static and unalert to the danger, failing to respond to the threat.

Cole Palmer's replacement, Estevao, made an instant impact, playing a crucial role in Chelsea's third goal. He provided a perfectly weighted cut-back for Enzo Fernandez to tap in, and in doing so, became the youngest player in Premier League history to assist a goal for Chelsea at just 18 years and 120 days old .

Enzo Fernandez had a chance to add a fourth goal just after halftime, but he failed to find the target despite Chelsea's effortless attack. Pedro Neto's delivery from the left created a scoring opportunity, but Fernandez's attempt was ultimately unsuccessful.

However, Chelsea's fourth goal soon followed when Mads Hermansen mishandled an incoming corner, and Moises Caicedo pounced on the error to score. Trevoh Chalobah sealed the win with Chelsea's fifth goal, scoring two minutes shy of the hour mark after West Ham's defense failed to clear the danger. The convincing lead had many West Ham fans leaving the stadium early, as Chelsea's dominance became increasingly apparent.

West Ham showed a rare glimpse of threat in the match, finally mounting a response with a flurry of activity in Chelsea's box. Substitute Kyle Walker-Peters' cross-shot was cleared away from the goalmouth by Moises Caicedo, highlighting the Hammers' growing presence in the game.

Chelsea's momentum was still dominant, and they looked poised to score their sixth goal moments later. Reece James delivered a brilliant pass to Estevao, but the Brazilian's effort took a deflection and was comfortably saved by West Ham goalkeeper, Alphonse Areola wasn't mentioned however, “Hermansen“ save wasn't clear.

This loss extends Potter's winless streak against Chelsea in eight managerial meetings, now standing at four draws and four losses. Furthermore, Potter's team struggled at home, managing only nine points in their first 10 Premier League games, ultimately breaking an unwanted record previously held by Alan Curbishley and Avram Grant, who accumulated 10 points in their first 10 matches.

Chelsea claimed their 33rd win against West Ham United in this competition, surpassed only by their victories against Tottenham Hotspur, which stands at 37 wins. This dominant performance temporarily propelled Chelsea to the top of the table, at least for 17 hours, showcasing their strength and consistency in the league.
