Madison Keys Crashes Out of Wimbledon

Tennis news: Madison Keys suffers a surprise exit at Wimbledon, losing to world number 104 Laura Siegemund. Get the latest updates.

Madison Keys' Wimbledon run came to an end with a 6-3, 6-3 loss to Laura Siegemund in the third round on Court Two. Siegemund, ranked 104th in the world, proved too strong for the American sixth seed. This upset marks a disappointing exit for Keys, who had shown promise earlier in the tournament.

In a recent turn of events, Keys' performance starkly contrasts with her previous wins. Last year, she reached the fourth round at Wimbledon, beating Marta Kostyuk 6-4, 6-3. However, her current form didn't quite match up to her past successes. Siegemund's victory showcases her growing prowess on the court.

Keys has had a tumultuous Wimbledon, having previously retired due to a hamstring injury in a match against Jasmine Paolini. She later updated fans on her condition, stating she would undergo an MRI to assess the severity of the injury. Despite this setback, Keys is expected to recover and return to form.

It's worth noting that Keys and Siegemund have played each other before, with their head-to-head record showing one win each in their past encounters. Siegemund's recent performance might indicate a shift in momentum in their rivalry.

The top seeds have been falling like dominoes at Wimbledon, with Madison Keys becoming the latest to exit. She's the fifth player among the top six seeds to lose in the women's draw, joining Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, Jasmine Paolini, and Zheng Qinwen. World number one Aryna Sabalenka is one of the few top seeds still in the running.

Madison Keys' Wimbledon struggles continue, with her latest exit coming at the hands of Laura Siegemund. Despite winning the Australian Open in January by beating Aryna Sabalenka, Keys has yet to make it past the quarterfinals in 11 visits to Wimbledon. Her match against Siegemund was marked by 31 unforced errors, highlighting her struggles on the grass courts. The loss was a sour note on July 4th, as Americans back home celebrated Independence Day.

Laura Siegemund has reached the Wimbledon last 16 for the first time, beating Madison Keys 6-3, 6-3 in the third round. The 37-year-old German is the oldest player remaining in the women's tournament. Siegemund previously defeated Leylah Fernandez in the second round and is enjoying a strong run at Wimbledon. Her best Grand Slam singles performance was reaching the French Open quarterfinals in 2020.

“When you beat a great player like Madison you have to be really happy,” said Siegemund. “I managed to keep my nerve in the end. If you don't have nerves in this moment you are probably dead.

“It was a big opportunity. You just take a deep breath and remember your strategy.

“All the girls on the tour are perfectionists. I'm the same but there was no pressure for me. I don't feel like I need to prove anything anymore.”
