Finn Russell Determined to Bring Premiership Title to Bath

Bath Rugby, led by Finn Russell, prepares to face Leicester in the Premiership final at Twickenham. Can Russell help Bath secure their first English top-flight title since 1996?

Bath and Scotland fly-half Finn Russell is relishing the prospect of being a hero at Twickenham in Saturday's English Premiership final against Leicester. Russell is accustomed to being viewed unfavorably by fans at the English national stadium during his international appearances with Scotland, making this a unique opportunity for him to flip the script.

Finn Russell, the British and Irish Lions number 10, expects strong support from Bath's traveling fans as they seek their first English top-flight title since 1996. Russell was instrumental in Bath's 34-20 win over Bristol in the play-off semi-finals, scoring 14 points. “It is always good playing in front of a sold-out stadium,” said the 32-year-old playmaker, looking forward to the final against Leicester at Twickenham.

“Having your home fans there, hopefully the majority of tickets are Bath fans, that will be special.

“I know the other side of playing at Twickenham. Usually when I am there, it is 70-odd thousand fans against me.”

Finn Russell is determined to help Bath avenge last season's painful 25-21 final loss to Northampton. “I think that motivation has been there for everyone,” Russell said. “After getting that final and losing it last year, it is always quite tough to come back in that next year,” he added, highlighting the drive to overcome the previous year's disappointment.

Bath, who topped the regular-season Premiership table, are chasing a treble after already winning the European Challenge Cup and Premiership Rugby Cup. “But I think everyone came back in pre-season in good shape and kind of ripped in straight away,” Finn Russell said, highlighting the team's strong preparation. Russell urged his team to secure the title at Twickenham this weekend, a feat that would end their 28-year wait for a top-flight championship.

“At the start of the year, the goal was to win the Premiership. We have gotten ourselves in a good spot just now to hopefully go and do that,” he said.

“We have almost got back to where we wanted to be and hopefully can go one step further this year.”
