Cricket West Indies (CWI) has appointed all-rounder Roston Chase as the new captain of the West Indies Test team. Chase, 33, succeeds Kraigg Brathwaite, who stepped down as captain in March.
The selection process involved several candidates undergoing rigorous evaluation, including psychometric testing to assess their leadership styles. After a thorough assessment, CWI chose Chase to lead the team, entrusting him with the responsibility of guiding the West Indies in Test cricket.

Other candidates considered for the captaincy role included John Campbell, Tevin Imlach, Joshua Da Silva, Justin Greaves, and Jomel Warrican. Warrican has been appointed as Roston Chase's deputy, providing support to the new captain. Notably, Shai Hope, the white-ball captain, opted out of consideration for the Test captaincy role.
West Indies head coach Daren Sammy expressed his full support for Chase's appointment, stating, “I fully endorse this appointment," as reported in the CWI statement. Sammy's backing suggests confidence in Chase's leadership abilities.
“Our new captain has earned the respect of his peers, understands the responsibility that comes with the role and has shown the leadership qualities we need to take this team forward.
“I urge fans across the region to rally behind him - we're building something special.”
Roston Chase, a spin-bowling all-rounder, returns to the forefront as the new West Indies Test captain. Chase last played Test cricket in March 2023, having appeared in 49 matches. He'll make his captaincy debut in a three-match home series against Australia, starting June 25.
