Scheffler Extends Lead at CJ Cup Byron Nelson

Scottie Scheffler shoots 8-under 63 to extend lead to six strokes at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, seeking his first win of the year.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler overcame a six-hour delay due to bad weather to shoot an 8-under 63, extending his lead in the CJ Cup Byron Nelson. Scheffler carded a bogey-free round, taking his total to 18-under 124 at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas.

Scottie Scheffler expressed satisfaction with his performance, saying, “Feeling good. I had two nice days. We'll see how the scores shake out as more guys come in. Overall, very pleased with how I played. Yeah, pretty good. Go home, get a little bit of rest, and get ready for tomorrow.”

Scheffler's 36-hole score of 124 set a new course record at TPC Craig Ranch, marking the best start to a PGA Tour event in his career. This strong showing comes as a tune-up for the PGA Championship in two weeks.

“We're on a golf course where you've got to make some birdies and the conditions were changing a good amount,” Scheffler said.

“With the huge rain delay, that was a challenge as well. Getting back out and playing in some wind and some pretty wet fairways, but overall, it's great to be playing at home.

“This tournament means a lot to me, and it's nice to be playing good golf as well. I feel like my game is trending in the right direction.”

During the six-hour, 15-minute delay, Scottie Scheffler passed the time by swapping stories with fellow players and enjoying the player dining area. When play resumed, he handled the wet conditions well. “The golf course was pretty wet, but overall I think it recovered nicely,” Scheffler said. “I thought the golf course held up nice. The greens were pretty good still.”

Sam Stevens was the nearest challenger, shooting a 4-under 65 with four birdies in his last six holes to stand at 8-under 130, six shots behind Scheffler. Ricky Castillo was 11-under through 14 holes, while Jhonattan Vegas carded a 69 to sit 10-under, still trailing Scheffler's commanding lead.
