Postecoglou's Spurs Suffer Setback at Villa Park

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou expresses frustration after 2-0 defeat at Aston Villa, keeping Villans in Champions League qualification hunt.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou expressed frustration after his team succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at Aston Villa. The Villans' physicality proved too much for Spurs, with Ezri Konsa and Boubacar Kamara scoring the decisive goals. This loss keeps Aston Villa in contention for a Champions League spot, while Tottenham faces another setback in their own title push.

A defeat to Unai Emery's Aston Villa marks West Ham's 21st Premier League loss of the season, leaving them 17th in the table. Postecoglou opted for a significantly altered lineup, prioritizing the upcoming Europa League final against Manchester United on May 21st. Following the match, the Australian manager expressed frustration that his team couldn't keep pace with Villa's performance.

Postecoglou's comments highlighted the team's struggles in maintaining consistency, particularly when juggling league and European commitments. With key fixtures looming, West Ham will need to find a way to balance their priorities and improve their league form to avoid further disappointment.

He said: “I thought up until they scored the boys had worked hard, they were really disciplined and organised. We didn't really let them create too many clear openings.

“We had our moments as well, going the other way, but once they scored we lost a little bit of belief. We got a little bit fatigued.

“A lot of those guys haven't played a lot and we looked like we were fatiguing and then the game just got away from us.”
