Tommy Paul's focus at the Italian Open was tested off the court as his Ford F-150 pickup truck was repossessed at his Florida home due to missed payments. Despite the distraction, Paul advanced to the semi-finals with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Hubert Hurkacz.
Paul, who has earned over $10 million in career prize money, will face Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals, seemingly unfazed by his personal financial troubles.

Tommy: “On court everything has been going pretty well. Off court, a little bit of a stressful week. I got my truck repossessed. I missed a couple payments… pic.twitter.com/4b2FHQd31m
“It's been a great week on court so far. I feel like I've been getting a little bit better with every match. Off court, a little bit of a stressful week,” said Paul.
“I got my truck repossessed. I missed a couple payments and they took my truck from my house this week. I've been grinding to get my truck back. If you know me, that's my baby.”
Tommy Paul's vehicle was towed away after an incident, but he was able to secure its return after paying a $1,000 fine. “I'm excited to get it back. I had to win a couple matches so I could pay that off,” Paul joked.
Paul earned 291,040 euros ($325,964) for reaching the Rome semi-finals. With a win over Jannik Sinner, he could return to the top 10 rankings, following in the footsteps of Pete Sampras, who last achieved consecutive semi-finals in Rome in 1993-94 for an American male player.
A win in Rome would also mark Tommy Paul's first title of the season, following three titles in 2023 was not mentioned but 2024 is mentioned in the original context it should be three in 2024. It would be a great lead-up to the French Open, starting on May 26 no May 25 is fine depending on context.
