Denmark recovers from a shocking start to defeat Hungary 8-2 at the Ice Hockey World Championships, keeping their quarterfinal hopes alive.
Denmark bounced back from a shocking start to dominate Hungary 8-2 in their fifth match at the Ice Hockey World Championships. Despite being heavy favorites, Denmark's complacency was swiftly punished when Hungary's Peter Vincze capitalized on a two-minute penalty against Oscar Fisker Molgaard to score just 33 seconds into the game.
The Danes regrouped and showcased their skill, firing eight unanswered goals past Hungary to secure a convincing victory. This win keeps Denmark's quarterfinal hopes alive as they continue their tournament campaign.
Denmark's nightmare continued as Hungary extended their lead when Andras Mihalik found himself unmarked and slotted the puck into the top corner, leaving goalkeeper Sebastian Dahm no chance. The goal silenced the Danish crowd and gave Hungary a 2-0 lead.
However, the deficit sparked Denmark into action. When Krisztián Nagy was penalized, Denmark seized the opportunity and scored on the power play. Mikkel Aagaard netted the rebound, reducing Hungary's lead to 2-1 with just four minutes remaining in the first period.
