Di Maria Announces Benfica Exit After Title Miss
Angel Di Maria confirms he will leave Benfica at the end of the season after the club fails to win the Liga Portugal title.
Angel Di Maria will leave Benfica at the end of the season, the Argentine forward announced after the club's failure to secure the Liga Portugal title. Benfica finished second, two points behind Sporting, following a 1-1 draw at Braga on Saturday. Di Maria, 37, has played for Benfica in two spells, rejoining in 2023 after stints with Real Madrid, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, and Juventus. He retired from international football last year after earning 145 caps for Argentina.
“It hurts a lot to end this way after such a long year. It was my last championship match with this shirt and I'm proud to have been able to wear it again,” Di Maria wrote on Instagram.

Angel Di Maria confirmed he will leave Benfica at the end of the season after the club's Liga Portugal title hopes were dashed. Despite the disappointment, Di Maria remains focused on Sunday's Portuguese Cup final against Sporting. “There's still a final on Sunday and we're going to go there with all our desire and joy to win it. Together as always. Thanks for your support, Benfica fans,” he said. Benfica will also kick off their Club World Cup campaign on June 16.
