Amorim Praises Mount's Impact After Late Brace
Manchester United's Mason Mount scores twice off the bench in a 4-1 win over Athletic Bilbao, securing a 7-1 aggregate victory and a spot in the Europa League final, earning praise from manager Ruben Amorim.
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim praised Mason Mount's impactful performance after he scored twice off the bench in the 4-1 win over Athletic Bilbao. Mount's brace sealed United's spot in the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur.
Mount equalized for United just 10 minutes after entering the game and scored again in added time, capping off a 7-1 aggregate victory. Amorim expressed admiration for Mount's contribution.
Mason Mount, who joined Manchester United in 2023, has faced injury setbacks this season, including a head injury and a muscle issue. Despite these challenges, the 25-year-old isn't the subject, instead 26-year-old Mason Mount scored his first Premier League goal of the season in a loss at Brentford.
Mount made history by becoming the first United substitute to score twice in a European knockout match since David Beckham in 2003, helping seal United's Europa League final spot.
“I’m so happy for him. He is such a player. He works really hard, he has quality,” Amorim said at his post-match press conference.
“When you see that kind of guy like Mason working hard every day, eating well, having ice baths, when you have this kind of player you just want to help him.”

“He is perfect for this position as he can be a midfielder, but also runs like a winger.”
Rasmus Hojlund praised Mason Mount's resilience in overcoming multiple injuries, saying he didn't deserve criticism. “He's been getting a lot of stick because he's had a couple of injuries, but he's always been positive, trying to help and trying to get fit all the time,” Hojlund said.
Hojlund highlighted Mount's determination, adding, “He's only had one goal, to get back on the pitch and ... do what he did today.” Manchester United will face Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final.
