AC Milan Comes From Behind to Beat Genoa in Thrilling Serie A Match

AC Milan secured a crucial win against Genoa in Serie A, coming from behind with late goals from Rafael Leao and others.

AC Milan secured a crucial win against Genoa in Serie A, coming from behind in the second half to earn three points. The match saw substitutes Vitinha and Rafael Leao score key goals, while Genoa's Morten Frendrup inadvertently sealed the deal with an own goal.

In a tactical surprise, Genoa's coach Sergio Conceicao left Rafael Leao out of the starting lineup. Milan made one change with Ruben Loftus-Cheek replacing Leao, while Genoa brought back Stefano Sabelli, Junior Messias, and Andrea Pinamonti to their starting XI.

Milan began the match strongly, earning a pair of corners in the opening minutes. However, they struggled to pose a significant threat to Genoa goalkeeper Nicola Leali. Brooke Norton-Cuffy had the first shot on target, attempting to curl a shot into the far corner after cutting in from the right flank, but Mike Maignan made a comfortable save.

In an attempt to make an impact, Theo Hernandez launched a long-range shot from deep in his own half, trying to catch Leali off guard. However, the ball lacked sufficient bend and sailed out for a goal kick, failing to trouble the Genoa goalkeeper.

Mike Maignan made a spectacular double save in the first half, denying Genoa from a corner kick. He first dived across his goal line to stop the ball, and then used the underside of his boot to prevent the follow-up shot.

Genoa's goalkeeper Nicola Leali also made a crucial save, denying Christian Pulisic just before halftime. Pulisic had broken into the box after being slipped in by Rafael Leao, who had been introduced as a substitute for the injured Youssouf Fofana. Given Pulisic's current form, he would likely have scored from that position.

The second half started disjointedly, with two consecutive stoppages for Patrizio Masini and Tijjani Reijnders to receive treatment. The game gained momentum when Vitinha was introduced for Genoa at the hour mark.

Vitinha, who hadn't scored all season, made an immediate impact. With his first touch of the game, he scored a stunning side-footed volley, converting Aaron Martin's delivery from the left flank.

Milan took the lead with two quick goals. The equalizer was scored through a combination of substitutes Santiago Gimenez and Rafael Leao. Gimenez latched onto a long ball and delivered a cut-back from the right byline, which Leao converted, albeit with a significant deflection off Brooke Norton-Cuffy.

Leao's contribution off the bench continues to impact the game. He now has three goals and two assists in eight appearances as a substitute in Serie A this season, showcasing his effectiveness in crucial moments.

Just two minutes later, Milan extended their lead. Tijjani Reijnders delivered a low cross from the opposite flank, which seemed destined for Joao Felix to tap in. However, Morten Frendrup intervened, inadvertently deflecting the ball into his own net to make it 1-2.

The result didn't alter the Serie A standings, with Milan remaining in ninth place and Genoa staying in 13th.
