Xabi Alonso Warns Leverkusen of Arminia's German Cup Threat

Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso says his team will not underestimate Arminia Bielefeld in their German Cup semi-final match on Tuesday.

Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has expressed caution ahead of his team's German Cup semi-final match against Arminia Bielefeld on Tuesday. Alonso acknowledged that Arminia's impressive record against Bundesliga clubs in the German Cup makes them a formidable opponent.

Arminia Bielefeld, a third-tier German team, has already knocked out several top-flight teams en route to the semi-finals, including Union Berlin, SC Freiburg, and Werder Bremen. Alonso recognized the threat posed by Arminia, saying, “We have to respect Arminia, they have beaten three Bundesliga teams already.”

Alonso emphasized the importance of being prepared for a challenging match, stating, “We have to be ready for a tough game. We need to give everything, it's an all or nothing game.” This mindset reflects the high stakes of the semi-final match and the need for Leverkusen to be at their best to overcome Arminia.

Xabi Alonso, the manager of Bayer Leverkusen, has praised Arminia Bielefeld's performance in the German Cup, acknowledging their deserving spot in the semi-finals. “The DFB-Pokal is special. It writes its own stories. Arminia has done very well and deserves to be in the semis,” Alonso said, highlighting the unique nature of the competition.

Bayer Leverkusen, the reigning German Cup holders, are currently on a two-match winning streak, having bounced back from their Champions League exit and a Bundesliga loss to Werder Bremen. The team is second in the Bundesliga standings, six points behind leaders Bayern Munich with nine matches remaining.

Alonso analyzed Arminia's playing style, noting their energetic and courageous approach to the game. “Arminia play with a lot of energy and are courageous with the ball. They are very dynamic going forward.” He also expressed his expectations for a lively atmosphere in Bielefeld and emphasized the need for his team to give their all in the semi-final match. “It's semis, we're expecting a great atmosphere in Bielefeld and we'll have to give it our all,” Alonso said.
