Virgil van Dijk praised Liverpool's Premier League title win as “special” after the Reds celebrated with a 5-1 thrashing of Tottenham at Anfield. The victory marked a record-equalling 20th English crown for Liverpool.

The win was sealed in style, with Arne Slot's team delivering a confident performance in front of a packed and jubilant crowd. Liverpool needed just a point to clinch the title, but they exceeded expectations with a dominant display.

Dominic Solanke's early goal for Tottenham threatened to disrupt Liverpool's celebrations, but the Reds responded strongly with first-half goals from Luis Diaz, Alexis Mac Allister, and Cody Gakpo. After halftime, Mohamed Salah added to the scoreline, and Destiny Udogie's own goal sealed a 5-1 victory, clinching Liverpool's record-equalling 20th English title.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk described the moment as ”special” and “something that we don't take for granted. It's amazing.” He added, “A lot of emotions before the game, during the whole week, but we got the job done and we are truly deserved champions of England. The most beautiful club in the world and I think we deserve all of this. Let's enjoy the next couple of weeks and let it sink in.”

Liverpool's previous Premier League title, won during the Covid-19 pandemic, was marked by empty stands due to lockdown restrictions. In contrast, this title triumph allowed the team to bask in the adoration of their fans. Virgil van Dijk said this success meant even more because of the presence of supporters.

Van Dijk and his teammates celebrated by linking arms with Arne Slot and staff to sing “You'll Never Walk Alone” in front of the Kop stand, accompanied by the fans' thunderous chant. “I was desperate to win it for them and all the fans around the world, and for us as well,” Van Dijk said. “We have won two Premier League trophies in five years!”
