Holger Rune has made the precautionary decision to withdraw from the UTS exhibition tournament in Nîmes, citing concerns over a potential knee injury. The tournament is set to take place this week, but Rune is prioritizing his health ahead of the upcoming clay season.

Rune revealed that he experienced knee pain during a training session, which sparked concerns about a possible recurrence of a previous injury. After consulting with his medical team, Rune decided it was best to err on the side of caution and pull out of the tournament. “I felt some pain in my knee during today's training, and I have experienced this with a previous injury,” Rune explained.

Rune emphasized the importance of being fully prepared and healthy before competing in matches, particularly in a fast-paced format like the UTS. “I consulted with my medical team, and we have decided that I cannot risk anything before the start of the clay season. I need to be 100 percent ready to play matches – especially in a fast format like UTS,” Rune said, highlighting his commitment to prioritizing his health and well-being.

Australian Alexei Popyrin will step in to replace Rune in the show tournament, which features a star-studded lineup including Andrey Rublev, Alex de Minaur, Casper Ruud, Tomas Machac, Ben Shelton, Ugo Humbert, and Gael Monfils. The tournament is set to take place this weekend.

Rune is expected to make his return to competition at the ATP 1000 tournament in Monte Carlo, which begins on Monday. The clay season will provide a fresh start for Rune, who will be looking to regain his form and compete at the highest level.
