Ruben Amorim Admits Time is Running Out to Fix Manchester United's Struggles

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim admits he's running out of time to turn the team's fortunes around after a defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim expressed concerns about the limited time he has to rectify the team's struggles after their latest defeat. The Red Devils suffered a loss at Nottingham Forest on Tuesday, adding to the pressure on Amorim to turn things around.

The match saw former Manchester United forward Anthony Elanga score a fine early goal, securing a comfortable win for Nottingham Forest at the City Ground. The defeat marked Manchester United's 13th loss of the season in the Premier League, further emphasizing the need for Amorim to find solutions quickly.

Tuesday's defeat has brought Manchester United perilously close to matching their record of 14 Premier League losses in the 2023-24 season. Currently, they sit 13th in the table, with manager Ruben Amorim struggling to implement meaningful changes.

Amorim acknowledged the immense pressure that comes with managing Manchester United, emphasizing the need for swift improvement. “At Manchester United, you don't have time,” Amorim stated. “I won't have time. We must get it right quickly. The pressure here can be overwhelming at times.”

Amorim analyzed the match, highlighting how conceding an early goal allowed Nottingham Forest to adopt a defensive approach, utilizing their speedy players to launch counter-attacks. Despite this, Amorim believed his team controlled the game reasonably well, particularly in the second half. However, he lamented their inability to capitalize on scoring opportunities in the final third.

Alejandro Garnacho was particularly guilty of squandering chances, taking six of United's 24 shots without truly testing Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels. Garnacho's profligacy in front of goal epitomized United's struggles to convert scoring opportunities into tangible results.

Ruben Amorim has consistently defended Alejandro Garnacho, and he continued to do so, emphasizing that the young Argentine's overall efforts meet the required standard. “He is making everything,” Amorim added, highlighting Garnacho's dedication and work ethic.

Amorim acknowledged that Garnacho's performance against Nottingham Forest was not perfect, particularly in the final third. However, he chose to focus on the positives, noting that Garnacho's willingness to track back and defend is a crucial aspect of his game. “Sometimes you have one day that you are doing the right things, but in the final third, you are not that good, that can happen,” Amorim explained.

Amorim also recognized that Garnacho sometimes tries too hard, which can lead to mistakes. Nevertheless, he praised the young player's intentions and commitment to the team. “Of course, we want a player that has one against one,” Amorim said. “Sometimes he is trying too much. I think he wants to help the team to do his best, sometimes he doesn't make the best choice, but you cannot point to any player today.”
