AZ Alkmaar Held to Third Consecutive Draw as RKC Waalwijk Earn Surprise Point

AZ Alkmaar's struggles continued as they were held to a 2-2 draw by RKC Waalwijk, marking their third consecutive draw and fourth game without a win.

AZ Alkmaar's winless streak in the Eredivisie has extended to four games, as they were held to a draw by RKC Waalwijk at home. This result follows two consecutive draws for AZ, including a disappointing collapse against NEC Nijmegen last weekend, where they squandered a 3-1 lead in the final 30 minutes.

RKC Waalwijk, on the other hand, were seeking their first points since February 9th, having suffered four consecutive Eredivisie defeats. However, their hopes of securing a positive result were dealt an early blow when Troy Parrott capitalized on a mistake by the visitors. Ibrahim Sadiq's relentless pressure led to RKC losing possession in front of their own box, allowing Sadiq to set up Parrott for a one-on-one opportunity with Jeroen Houwen, which Parrott clinically finished.

The first half was relatively slow, with Peer Koopmeiners' effort being the only notable opportunity aside from Parrott's goal. However, the second half got off to a promising start, as Michiel Kramer scored his first Eredivisie goal in nearly a year. Yassin Oukili delivered a pinpoint cross to Kramer, who neatly slotted the ball into the bottom corner to level the score.

Chris Lokesa gave RKC Waalwijk the lead 20 minutes after Michiel Kramer's equalizer, effortlessly bypassing Alexandre Penetra and curling the ball into the far corner. This goal put the relegation-threatened RKC in front, but their advantage was short-lived.

RKC's lead lasted only two minutes, as Mexx Meerdink equalized with a well-struck half-volley, scoring his seventh goal of the season. Notably, all of Meerdink's goals this season have come as a substitute. AZ had one final opportunity to take the lead, but Kees Smit's shot was handled adequately by RKC goalkeeper Jeroen Houwen.

The 2-2 draw marked AZ's third consecutive stalemate, allowing Feyenoord to potentially extend their lead to seven points with a win over FC Groningen. Meanwhile, RKC Waalwijk moved out of the bottom spot in the Eredivisie standings, equaling Almere City on points with 18 from 27 games.
