Record-Breaking £1 Million Prize for 2025 PDC World Darts Champion

PDC Chief Executive Matt Porter

The PDC has announced a significant increase in prize money for the 2025 World Darts Championship, with the winner set to receive a record-breaking £1 million.

The Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) has announced a significant increase in the winner's prize for the World Darts Championship, with the champion set to receive a record-breaking £1 million ($1.29 million) in 2025. This amount is double the £500,000 prize awarded to this year's champion, Luke Littler.

Luke Littler, also known as “The Nuke,” made history by becoming the youngest World Darts Championship winner in January, receiving the £500,000 cheque at just 17 years old. Notably, the winner's share of the prize fund had remained unchanged since 2020.

Littler's remarkable emergence has had a profound impact on the sport, captivating the British public and contributing to a significant increase in darts' popularity. His impressive performance, including reaching the final last year, has helped to elevate the sport's profile.

In addition to the increased winner's prize, the overall prize fund for the World Championships has also been doubled to £5 million. Furthermore, the competition will expand to feature a 128-player field, up from the previous 96 players.

PDC Chief Executive Matt Porter emphasized the significance of the one million pound prize for the world champion, highlighting darts' status as a highly exciting and in-demand sport globally. “The one million pound prize for the world champion reflects darts' standing as one of the most exciting and in-demand sports in the world,” Porter stated.

Porter also underscored the PDC's commitment to increasing earning potential for players across all levels. “However, the increased prize funds announced today demonstrate our commitment to growing earning potential for players at all levels within the PDC system,” he added. This commitment is reflected in the PDC's decision to boost prize funds on next year's professional circuit by seven million pounds.

The increased prize funds will be distributed across various competitions, including the Premier League, World Matchplay, and Grand Slam. The Premier League's total pot will increase to 1.25 million pounds, while both the World Matchplay and Grand Slam will offer a one million pound prize fund. Additionally, the PDC has raised prize funds for ProTour events, as well as Challenge Tour, Development Tour, and Women's Series events.
