NHL Roundup - Exciting Matches as Regular Season Winds Down
The National Hockey League (NHL) regular season is rapidly approaching its conclusion, with only a few rounds remaining. Tuesday's matches saw several crucial goals scored as teams continue to vie for playoff spots.

Notable performances included Alexander Ovechkin moving closer to breaking a record, and Nick Suzuki delivering a clutch play for the Montreal Canadiens. Here

Capitals Edge Bruins 4-3, Ovechkin Closes in on Gretzky's Record

The Washington Capitals took a crucial step towards securing the President's Trophy with a thrilling 4-3 win over the Boston Bruins. Nic Dowd kicked off the scoring with a short-handed goal, followed by Alex Ovechkin's 891st career goal on a power play. This milestone leaves Ovechkin just four goals shy of breaking Wayne Gretzky's all-time scoring record.

The Bruins fought back in the second period, with Vinni Lettieri and David Pastrnak scoring to tie the game. However, Washington regained their lead in the third period with goals from Dylan Strome and Tom Wilson. Despite Pastrnak's third goal for the Bruins, the Capitals held on for their 41st regular-season victory.

This win solidifies the Capitals' position atop the Eastern Conference, 11 points ahead of the Carolina Hurricanes. It also marks the end of their three-game losing streak. In contrast, the Bruins remain at the bottom of the conference, suffering their ninth consecutive loss.

Canadiens Stun Panthers with Dramatic Overtime Victory

The Montreal Canadiens secured a thrilling 3-2 overtime win against the Florida Panthers at the Bell Centre. Josh Anderson opened the scoring just 4:43 into the game, but the Panthers responded quickly, with Niko Mikkola tying the game less than six minutes later.

Despite being outshot 49-33, the Canadiens managed to stay in the game. The Panthers took the lead late in the second period through Matthew Samoskevich and maintained it for most of the third period. However, in a stunning turn of events, Nick Suzuki scored with just seven seconds left to tie the game and force overtime.

The Canadiens carried their momentum into the overtime period, with Suzuki scoring again just 29 seconds in to secure the win. This dramatic victory propels the Canadiens into sole possession of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Meanwhile, the Panthers dropped to fifth place in the conference, but remain poised for a postseason appearance.
