Mika Biereth Breaks Records and Shares Humble Insights
Danish striker Mika Biereth breaks Ligue 1 records and shares his philosophy on goal-scoring and humility. Read his insightful quotes.
Danish international striker Mika Biereth recently broke Zlatan Ibrahimovic's Ligue 1 goalscoring record shortly after joining AS Monaco from Sturm Graz. In an interview with L'Equipe, Biereth humbly downplayed his impressive performances.
Biereth emphasized that he doesn't focus on scoring “YouTube goals,” suggesting a pragmatic approach to his game. His remarkable form since joining Monaco in January has led to several record-breaking achievements in Ligue 1.
Former Arsenal player Biereth has made a remarkable start to his Ligue 1 career, scoring 10 goals in his first seven matches and surpassing Zlatan Ibrahimovic's record of nine goals set in 2012. Biereth's impressive performance also marks the first time in 70 years a player has scored three hat-tricks in their first seven Ligue 1 games.
Biereth's 10 goals have made him the top league goal scorer in the five major leagues in 2025, surpassing Ousmane Dembélé (9), Mateo Retegui (9), and Mohamed Salah (8). In an interview with L'Equipe, Biereth attributes his goal-scoring ability to his natural instinct, suggesting it's not a newfound talent but rather a consistent part of his game.
Mika Biereth attributes his goal-scoring ability to a lifelong instinct. “I've always had the nose for scoring goals since I was a little kid, and I've developed it over and over again.” He emphasizes the importance of results over style, saying, “It's pretty simple: Goals win games, and the more you score, the better your chances are of winning. I understand that in football you value the 'beautiful', but that's not my style. Believe me, there will never be a YouTube compilation of my skills. I love scoring goals. Who doesn't?”
Biereth stresses the importance of humility for young strikers, especially when experiencing success. ”For a young player, it's a dangerous moment (scoring goals, ed.) because it can give you a feeling of being on top of the world. But in football, everything goes very fast - in both directions.” He advises players to balance happiness with caution, saying, “Yes, it's good to be happy, but don't be too happy, because you don't know how the next match will go.”
Mika Biereth stays grounded despite his impressive performances. “Scoring a hat-trick is great. But the joy only lasts a few hours. Then I try to go to bed, and the next day it all starts again. It's easy to keep both feet on the ground. My family and friends say: 'Well played, but it was just a football match.'”

Biereth playfully compares himself to top strikers, saying, “I'm a bit like Harry Kane. And he's a bit like me. He loves to be in the box and finish. I really admire him. Kane is a bit different. He can also create openings for his teammates. I think I can do the same.”
Biereth and AS Monaco face Le Havre away on Saturday, with Monaco currently third in Ligue 1.
