LaLiga: Barcelona Still Lacks Financial Capacity to Register Olmo and Victor
La Liga says Barcelona still can't register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor due to financial fair play issues, despite a reported 100m euro VIP box deal.
LaLiga has stated that Barcelona still lack the necessary finances to register players Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, ahead of a decision by Spain's sports council (CSD) regarding the duo's eligibility to play. This update comes after Barcelona announced a deal in January to sell VIP boxes at the Camp Nou stadium, reportedly worth 100 million euros (£83.5m), which was expected to provide the necessary financial fair play room for the new licenses.
LaLiga explained that Barcelona had used an unnamed auditor between December 31st and January 3rd, who recorded the VIP box deal on the club's books. However, the club's current auditor no longer includes this deal in Barcelona's interim financial statements for the first part of the 2024/25 season. As a result, LaLiga emphasized that “no amount from the (VIP box deal) is ultimately recorded in the profit and loss accounts, contrary to what had been certified by the club and the auditor at the time of said transaction.”
In a statement, LaLiga reiterated that Barcelona's financial situation remains unchanged, and the club still lacks the necessary finances to register Olmo and Victor. This development may impact the players' eligibility to participate in upcoming matches, pending the CSD's decision.
La Liga has announced that it is reporting the auditor employed by Barcelona between December 31st and January 3rd to the Accounting and Auditing Institute. This move comes amid a dispute over the registration of players Dani Olmo and Pau Victor.
In a statement, La Liga emphasized that Barcelona lacked the necessary financial fair play capacity to register Olmo and Victor on December 31, 2024, January 3, 2025, or at any point since then. The statement read, “Barcelona... did not have on December 31, 2024, or on January 3, 2025, nor has it had since that date, nor does it currently have, (the financial fair play capacity) for the registration of the players Dani Olmo and Pau Victor.”

Barcelona has declined to comment on the matter, according to AFP. The controversy surrounding Olmo and Victor's registration began when La Liga claimed that Barcelona failed to register the players before a deadline at the end of December, after their temporary licenses expired. However, on January 8, the Spanish Sports Council (CSD) granted Barcelona precautionary permission to use Olmo and Victor.
The Spanish Sports Council (CSD) has granted Barcelona permission to select players Dani Olmo and Pau Victor until a definitive ruling is made in the club's case against La Liga and the Spanish football federation (RFEF). This decision allows Olmo and Victor to continue playing for Barcelona until the ruling, which is expected on or before April 7.
The CSD's ruling comes after La Liga and the RFEF refused to allow Barcelona to renew Olmo and Victor's registrations. Initially, the players were registered on a short-term basis, as Barcelona exploited a financial loophole following an injury to defender Andreas Christensen. Since then, Olmo has made 13 appearances, scoring two goals and providing four assists, despite currently being injured. Meanwhile, Victor has made five substitute appearances for the club.
