Holger Rune withdrew from his Madrid Open match against Flavio Cobolli due to a possible thigh injury after losing the first set 2-6. The eighth-seeded Dane struggled with a muscle issue in his thigh during the second-round match.


This marks Rune's third retirement of the year, following similar incidents in Acapulco and Monte-Carlo. His fragile physique continues to impact his performance on the ATP Tour.




Eighth-seeded Holger Rune withdrew from his Madrid Open match against Flavio Cobolli due to a thigh muscle injury after losing the first set 2-6. Rune had taken a promising start to the season, winning the ATP 500 tournament in Barcelona just before the Madrid event.


Rune initially tried to continue playing after taking a medical timeout at 2-3, but his physical struggles became apparent. Cobolli won four straight games, and Rune ultimately chose to retire. Cobolli will next face 31st seed Brandon Nakashima.
