EPL: Liverpool's Title Push Hit by 3-2 Defeat to Fulham

Fulham pulls off a stunning 3-2 comeback victory over Liverpool, marking their second win in 16 head-to-head matches against the Reds.

Fulham pulled off an impressive 3-2 win against league leaders Liverpool at Craven Cottage, marking only their second victory in the last 16 head-to-head matches against the Reds. The Cottagers showed strong intent from the start, with Andreas Pereira forcing an error from Ibrahima Konate in his own box. Although Rodrigo Muniz's attempt was thwarted by Virgil van Dijk, Fulham's determination was evident.

Liverpool took the lead in the 14th minute with Alexis Mac Allister's stunning long-range strike, which sailed past Bernd Leno. However, Fulham quickly responded, and nine minutes later, Ryan Sessegnon capitalized on a weak clearance from Curtis Jones to score on his first league start at Craven Cottage since May 2019, leveling the score.

Fulham took the lead with Alex Iwobi's deflected shot and extended their advantage when Rodrigo Muniz scored, putting Liverpool on the back foot. Despite a strong second-half fightback, Liverpool could only manage one more goal, courtesy of Luis Diaz, leaving Fulham victorious in the end.

Andrew Robertson's sloppy square pass appeared to go unpunished, but his moment of calamity continued when he headed the ball back to Alex Iwobi, whose shot was deflected past Caoimhin Kelleher. This mistake gave Fulham a 2-1 lead, and the Cottagers continued to threaten Liverpool's defense.

Just five minutes later, Rodrigo Muniz held off Virgil van Dijk and controlled Alex Iwobi's looped ball before scoring with a clever shot through Kelleher's legs. Liverpool showed more urgency after the restart, but Bernd Leno made a crucial save to deny Diogo Jota, and Dominik Szoboszlai's attempt went wide.

Liverpool's Late Fightback Falls Short
Arne Slot introduced a double change in the 55th minute, but the pattern of play remained unchanged, with Robertson striking over and Gravenberch blocking a Pereira shot. Another round of substitutions brought the change Liverpool needed, as Conor Bradley set up Luis Diaz's goal, but it was too little, too late, and Fulham held on for a 3-2 victory.

Liverpool's Late Push Falls Short
Despite a strong second-half fightback, Liverpool couldn't quite catch up with Fulham, with Harvey Elliott hitting the crossbar and Federico Chiesa's shot being held by Bernd Leno. The Reds had been looking to end their inconsistent form, having lost three of their last four matches across all competitions.

Fulham's 3-2 win over Liverpool not only marked a brilliant response to their back-to-back defeats but also kept their prospects of a European adventure tantalizingly within reach. This victory showcased the team's determination and resilience, leaving them just a step away from securing a coveted European spot.

Liverpool Nears Premier League Title
Meanwhile, Liverpool is on the verge of securing the Premier League title, needing just four more victories from their remaining eight matches. Despite their recent struggles, the Reds remain 12 points clear of their nearest rivals, Arsenal, and will look to maintain their momentum as they push for the championship.
