England Name Harry Brook as New White-Ball Captain

Harry Brook is appointed as the new captain of England's white-ball team, replacing Jos Buttler after his decision to step down following the ICC Champions Trophy.

The England and Wales Cricket Board has announced Harry Brook as the new captain of the England white-ball team, replacing Jos Buttler following his decision to step down after the ICC Champions Trophy group stage exit. Buttler, who had been at the helm since June 2022, led England to their second T20 World Cup title but struggled to replicate that success, overseeing 22 losses in 34 One-Day Internationals.

Brook, 26, has already gained experience in leadership roles, having captained England in the ODI series against Australia in September and serving as vice-captain at the Champions Trophy. His appointment comes as England looks to revitalize their white-ball team and regain their competitive edge. With his skills and experience, Brook is well-positioned to lead the team forward.

“It's a real honour to be named England's white-ball captain,” Brook said in a statement.

“Ever since I was a kid playing cricket at Burley in Wharfedale, I dreamed of representing Yorkshire, playing for England, and maybe one day leading the team. To now be given that chance means a great deal to me.

“I want to thank my family and coaches who've supported me every step of the way. Their belief in me has made all the difference and I wouldn't be in this position without them.

“There's so much talent in this country, and I'm looking forward to getting started, moving us forward, and working towards winning series, World Cups and major events.”
