Colorado Rockies Make Coaching Change

The Colorado Rockies fired hitting coach Hensley Meulens after a dismal start to the season, with Clint Hurdle taking over.

The Colorado Rockies parted ways with hitting coach Hensley Meulens after just 18 games into the season. Meulens, who joined the team in 2023, had previously worked with the San Francisco Giants, helping them win multiple World Series titles.

Former Rockies manager Clint Hurdle is set to return to the team as the new hitting coach, taking over for Meulens. The move comes as the Rockies struggle at the plate, currently sitting as the league's worst team.

The Colorado Rockies are struggling, ranking 21st in batting average with a .220 clip, and dead last in runs scored with 52. Their offense has been plagued by inconsistency, highlighted by a franchise-record 32 consecutive innings without scoring. The team currently holds the worst record in the league at 3-15 and is riding a six-game losing streak.

With 12 home runs, the Rockies are tied for 26th in the league. Their on-base percentage and slugging percentage stand at 25th and 24th, respectively. In an effort to bolster their offense, the team has made a coaching change.

Former manager Clint Hurdle has taken over as hitting coach after Hensley Meulens was fired. Hurdle managed the Rockies from 2002-09 and led them to the World Series in 2007. He'll work with the team through the end of the season, aiming to improve their hitting woes. The Rockies will face the Washington Nationals in a three-game series starting Thursday.
