Barcelona's Olmo and Victor Cleared to Play Until End of Season

The Spanish National Sports Council (CSD) has upheld the registrations of Barcelona players Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, allowing them to play for the club until the end of the season.

The Spanish National Sports Council (CSD) has delivered a significant verdict, upholding an appeal by Barcelona players Dani Olmo and Pau Victor. This decision enables the duo to continue playing for Barcelona until the end of the current season.

The development comes on the heels of LaLiga's decision to lower Barcelona's wage cap, citing discrepancies in the club's revised accounts. According to LaLiga, Barcelona's recently submitted accounts failed to align with the end-of-year figures provided by their previous auditor. This discrepancy led LaLiga to conclude that Barcelona lacked the financial capacity to register Olmo and Victor.

The initial accounts submitted by Barcelona included proceeds from the sale of VIP seats at the renovated Camp Nou. These proceeds allowed the club to comply with LaLiga's Financial Fair Play regulations and facilitated the registration of Olmo and Victor. However, LaLiga's reassessment of Barcelona's accounts led to the conclusion that the club was not in compliance with the Financial Fair Play rules.

The CSD's decision to annul the agreement between LaLiga and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has effectively overturned LaLiga's ruling. This verdict enables Olmo and Victor to continue playing for Barcelona for the remainder of the season, providing a significant boost to the club's prospects.

The Spanish National Sports Council (CSD) has upheld the validity of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor's registrations, citing a lack of resolution from the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to cancel their licenses. The CSD stated that the RFEF acknowledged “there is no federation resolution that agreed to the cancellation of the licences” and their decision not to grant a license is “null and void.”

The CSD emphasized that it had taken proactive measures to safeguard the professional careers of Olmo and Victor. “In any case, the professional careers of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor have been protected since January 8 by the urgent precautionary measure granted by the CSD, with the sole aim of avoiding irreparable harm until this procedure is resolved,” it said.

The CSD declared the agreement between the RFEF and LaLiga's Monitoring Committee null and void, citing incompetence, procedural irregularities, and lack of authorization. “In short, for reasons of incompetence, for not having followed the appropriate procedures established in the regulations, and for not being the body authorised to make decisions, the agreement of the Monitoring Committee of the RFEF-LaLiga Coordination Agreement must be considered null and void, and all effects derived from it invalidated.”

In January, the CSD had granted provisional registration to Olmo and Victor, just four days after Spanish football authorities rejected Barcelona's requests. This decision allowed the players to continue their professional careers without interruption, pending the resolution of the registration issue.
