UECL: Chelsea Advance to Conference League Quarterfinals with Narrow Win
Chelsea secure a spot in the UEFA Conference League quarterfinals with a 1-0 win over FC Copenhagen, advancing 3-1 on aggregate, thanks to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's decisive strike.
Chelsea booked their spot in the UEFA Conference League quarterfinals, narrowly defeating FC Copenhagen 1-0 in the second leg to secure a 3-1 aggregate victory. This win maintains Chelsea's perfect record in the competition proper, with the London club yet to drop a point.
Despite being knocked off the top of the Danish Superliga following a 1-1 draw with Sønderjyske, FC Copenhagen made a surprisingly bright start to the match. Seeking to overturn their narrow first-leg deficit, the visitors showed positivity and intent from the outset, catching Chelsea off guard with their energetic opening.
Despite being heavy tournament favorites, Chelsea struggled to assert control during a lackluster first half, which was marked by a scarcity of notable action. The visiting Copenhagen supporters, however, maintained a fervent atmosphere throughout. Chelsea's most promising attack came when Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Jadon Sancho combined effectively, leading to a potentially threatening cross from Dewsbury-Hall that was ultimately intercepted.
The first shot on target did not materialize until the waning moments of the half, courtesy of Viktor Claesson's header from a corner, which was comfortably caught by Filip Jorgensen. In an effort to inject life into the match, Cole Palmer was introduced for the second half, much to the delight of the underwhelmed home crowd. Palmer had not scored since mid-January, but his presence offered a welcome spark.
As the hour mark approached, Chelsea continued to struggle, failing to make a meaningful impact. However, a determined and occasionally fortunate run from Dewsbury-Hall eventually breached the Copenhagen defense. Dewsbury-Hall's weaving run created space, allowing him to unleash a low shot that found the far post, securing his third Chelsea goal and ultimately proving decisive in the match.
Although Dewsbury-Hall's goal provided Chelsea with a welcome cushion, it did little to alter the overall dynamics of the match. Cole Palmer did, however, come close to doubling the lead, bending a shot narrowly wide of the post. The game continued to meander towards its predictable conclusion, with both teams lacking the intensity and urgency that had been expected.

FC Copenhagen's elimination from the Conference League marks a disappointing milestone in their recent struggles. Having failed to win in their last four matches, Enzo Maresca's side now trails in the domestic standings, adding to the sense of discontent. This underwhelming run of form will need to be addressed promptly if Copenhagen hopes to revive their season.
In stark contrast, Chelsea's fourth consecutive victory in all competitions provides a timely boost to their morale. As they look ahead to a European quarterfinal, this winning momentum could prove pivotal in propelling the Blues forward. With confidence and form on their side, Chelsea will be eager to capitalize on this positive trajectory.
