Serie A: Inter Milan Stage Stunning Comeback to Defeat Monza 3-2
Inter Milan staged an incredible comeback to defeat Monza 3-2 in Serie A, overturning a two-goal deficit to extend their lead at the top of the table.
Inter Milan demonstrated their title aspirations with a classy comeback, overturning a two-goal deficit to secure a thrilling 3-2 victory over Monza at the San Siro. This hard-fought win extended Inter's unbeaten Serie A run to 11 matches, comprising eight wins and three draws, and propelled them four points clear at the top of the table.
Lautaro Martinez, fresh from scoring in Inter's Champions League triumph over Feyenoord, thought he had opened the scoring in the 24th minute. The Argentine's initial effort was saved by Stefano Turati, but he promptly lashed home the rebound, sending the home crowd into raptures. However, their jubilation was short-lived, as the goal was disallowed for handball following a VAR review, leaving the scoreline intact.

Monza capitalized on this reprieve, stunning Inter by taking the lead in the 61st minute through Samuele Birindelli. The full-back showcased his composure, slotting the ball past Josep Martinez after being expertly released by Dany Mota's sublime flick. This unexpected turn of events left Inter trailing, but they would ultimately respond with a spirited comeback to claim all three points.
The situation deteriorated further for Inter Milan as Keita Balde scored a stunning goal to double Monza's lead. Balde cut inside from the left flank and unleashed an unstoppable strike that sailed out of Josep Martinez's reach, leaving Inter trailing by two goals.
However, Inter Milan demonstrated remarkable resilience, responding swiftly before the break. Marko Arnautovic stooped low to head in Denzel Dumfries' knockdown, giving the hosts a crucial foothold ahead of the second period. This goal on the stroke of half-time provided Inter with a glimmer of hope.

Despite pulling a goal back, Inter manager Simone Inzaghi opted to make a double substitution at halftime, introducing Yann Bisseck and Carlos Augusto. This tactical move proved instrumental in Inter's comeback, as Bisseck played a key role in their equalizing goal. Bisseck laid the ball off for Hakan Calhanoglu, who drilled a low shot past Stefano Turati to register his 50th Serie A goal.
Augusto, the former Monza player, justified his halftime introduction by sending in a dangerous cross towards the back post. Giorgos Kyriakopoulos diverted the ball goalwards under immense pressure from Martinez, and although Turati made a valiant effort to keep the ball out, goalline technology confirmed that the ball had crossed the line, handing Inter the crucial winner.
The victory allowed Inter Milan to extend their lead at the top of the table and pile pressure on their title rivals, Napoli and Atalanta. In contrast, Monza remains rooted to the bottom of the table, 10 points adrift of safety, and facing an increasingly daunting task to avoid relegation.
