Serie A: Inter Claim Fifth Straight Win with 2-1 Victory Over Udinese

Inter Milan extended their lead at the top of Serie A to six points with a 2-1 win over Udinese.

Federico Dimarco played a pivotal role in Inter's crucial 2-1 victory over Udinese at the San Siro, providing two vital assists that helped the reigning champions extend their lead at the top of Serie A to six points. This win marked Inter's 12th consecutive home league game without defeat, a testament to their impressive form in front of their own fans.

The stage was set for Inter to capitalize on Atalanta's earlier loss to Fiorentina and assert their dominance in the title race. With second-placed Napoli facing a tough test against AC Milan later in the day, Inter aimed to apply pressure on their rivals with a convincing win. Simone Inzaghi's side rose to the challenge, taking the lead within the first 15 minutes of the match.

Inter's opening goal was the culmination of a well-crafted attacking move. Federico Dimarco made a decisive run down the left flank before delivering a precise reverse ball into the center of the 18-yard box. Marko Arnautovic was on hand to sweep the ball home, giving Inter the perfect start to the match and setting the tone for their eventual victory.

Udinese found themselves on the back foot for much of the first half, struggling to make a meaningful impact on the contest. Inter capitalized on their opponents' lack of momentum, doubling their lead just before the half-hour mark. Federico Dimarco was once again instrumental, releasing down the left flank before delivering a pinpoint cross into the danger area. Davide Frattesi was on hand to prod the ball home, giving Inter a commanding 2-0 advantage.

The halftime scoreline left Udinese facing a daunting task, as Inter boasted an impressive record of losing just once when leading a league game at halftime since the start of the 2023-2024 season. The Nerazzurri's strong first-half performance had seemingly set the tone for a comfortable victory. Following the restart, both coaches made a series of substitutions, but Inter continued to dominate, coasting through large periods of the second half.

However, the match suddenly sprang to life in the 71st minute when Oumar Solet unleashed a brilliant effort from distance, finding the back of the net and reducing the deficit to 2-1. This goal sparked a sense of urgency in Inter, who found themselves clinging on for the final quarter hour. Despite Udinese's renewed momentum, the visitors were unable to mount a sustained comeback, as a host of stoppages disrupted their rhythm and allowed Inter to hold on for the win.

Simone Inzaghi's late dismissal from the touchline for protesting at the referee had no bearing on the outcome of the match. Inter had already done enough to secure the three points, and they saw out the remaining moments to claim a fifth consecutive victory in all competitions.

This win also marked Inter's sixth straight triumph over Udinese, further solidifying their dominance over their opponents. Meanwhile, Udinese suffered their second defeat in three games, a result that has no significant impact on their season. Kosta Runjaic's side remains comfortably positioned in 10th place, with no threat of relegation looming. However, their aspirations for a European push have long since faded.
