Serie A: Bologna Move into Serie A's Top Six with Routine Win Over Como

Bologna extended their unbeaten run to seven matches with a 2-0 victory over 10-man Como, moving into sixth place in the Serie A table.

Bologna continued their impressive start to 2025, extending their unbeaten run to seven matches (three wins, four draws) with a convincing 2-0 victory over 10-man Como at the Stadio Renumi Dall'Ara. This win propelled the Rossoblu into Serie A's top six, keeping their aspirations of securing Champions League football for a second consecutive season firmly alive.

The match began with both teams evenly matched, but Bologna squandered a gilt-edged opportunity to take the lead after just 15 minutes. Jhon Lucumi's powerful header from Charalambos Lykogiannis' corner crashed against the crossbar, denying the Colombian centre-back a crucial opening goal. Despite this setback, Vincenzo Italiano's side gradually gained momentum, laying the foundation for their eventual victory.

Bologna's persistence paid off 10 minutes after Lucumi's near-miss, as they broke the deadlock through a beautifully crafted set piece. Lykogiannis, the Greek full-back, delivered an expert free-kick from the left wing, which Bologna skipper Lorenzo De Silvestri expertly headed into the top-right corner from just outside the six-yard box. This precision finish gave the Rossoblu a well-deserved lead, setting the tone for their eventual 2-0 triumph.

Bologna came agonizingly close to doubling their advantage before the halftime break, as Dutch striker Thijs Dallinga unleashed a powerful shot that rattled the crossbar from just inside the penalty area. This near-miss could have given Como an insurmountable task to recover, and their challenge became even more daunting with six minutes remaining in the first half.

Como's Alieu Fadera lost his composure, earning a yellow card for dissent, followed by a second yellow card for further dissent, leaving his team to face the second half with a numerical disadvantage. Despite this setback, Como began the second half with renewed vigor and nearly equalized six minutes after the restart. Assane Diao embarked on a promising run, culminating in a low strike from the edge of the area that narrowly missed the left post.

The decisive moment arrived in the 66th minute, as Giovanni Fabbian delivered the fatal blow to Como's hopes. The substitute striker expertly headed home a cross from fellow substitute Juan Miranda into the top-right corner from close range, sealing Bologna's 2-0 victory. With a comfortable two-goal cushion, Bologna remained firmly in control, seeing out the game with ease to secure a valuable three points.

The win propels Bologna to sixth place in the table, ahead of the remaining weekend fixtures. In stark contrast, the outlook appears bleak for Como, who now find themselves just two points above the bottom three. The defeat underscores the challenges facing Fabregas' men, who must regroup and rediscover their form to avoid being drawn into a relegation battle.
