Real Madrid secured a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Girona, thanks in large part to a vintage performance from Luka Modric. The win propelled Los Blancos level on points with Barcelona at the top of LaLiga, while also extending their head-to-head winning streak against Girona to four games without conceding a goal.


The match got off to a lively start, with Girona's Arnau Martínez testing Thibaut Courtois from a tight angle in the fifth minute. Real Madrid immediately responded with a threat of their own, as Kylian Mbappe forced Paulo Gazzaniga into action mere seconds later. As the half progressed, Real Madrid's attacking prowess became increasingly evident, with Vinicius Junior heading over the crossbar following a beautifully crafted link-up play.


Despite being met with a resolute Girona defense, Real Madrid remained patient and persistent in their attack. Brahim Díaz's venomous strike was palmed away by Gazzaniga, while Modric fired over the crossbar. However, Modric's experience and vision ultimately proved decisive, as he helped orchestrate Real Madrid's winning goals in each half.




Girona, also known as Los Blanquivermells, attempted to launch counter-attacks whenever possible, with Donny van de Beek causing a brief scare for Real Madrid. However, a rapid break by Los Blancos required a superb intervention from Ladislav Krejci, who prevented Vinicius' pass from reaching Kylian Mbappe.


Luka Modric then produced a moment of pure magic to break the deadlock before halftime. He chested down David Lopez's attempted clearance and sent a sensational strike into the top corner, leaving Girona's defense stunned. Despite Real Madrid's dominance, Gazzaniga denied Mbappe again, and Krejci made a crucial intervention to stop Rodrygo's header.




Real Madrid's persistence finally paid off in the 83rd minute, as Vinicius linked up with Mbappe and poked the ball past Gazzaniga to secure a 2-0 victory. This win ended Real Madrid's three-game winless run in La Liga, and they now trail league leaders Barcelona only on goal difference. The defeat also marked Girona's seventh loss in their last eight matches across all competitions.
