Howe: Newcastle Must Improve After Nervy Win Over Forest
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe says his team failed to manage the game despite their 4-3 win over Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe acknowledged that his team failed to effectively manage the game during their 4-3 win over Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Sunday. Despite dominating the first half and taking a 4-1 lead into the break, Newcastle's performance dropped off significantly in the second period, allowing Forest to create numerous scoring opportunities and ultimately net two goals.

Newcastle's first-half display was impressive, with the team scoring four goals in just 11 minutes. Alexander Isak was instrumental in the goal blitz, scoring twice to take his Premier League tally to 50 goals in 76 appearances. Howe's team could have potentially led by an even greater margin at halftime, given their level of dominance. However, their second-half performance was a cause for concern, with Forest able to capitalize on Newcastle's mistakes and create several scoring chances.

Howe was measured in his post-match assessment, choosing to focus on the positive aspects of the win. “I am trying to control my thoughts and stay positive,” he told the BBC. “We have won the game and that is what we needed to do. I thought it was a great performance in the first half. We didn't manage the game well but overall we are happy with the win.” Despite the nervy finish, Newcastle's victory marked an important three points for the team, and Howe will be looking to build on this result in their upcoming fixtures.

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe acknowledged that his team faced a difficult task after Nottingham Forest took an early lead in their Premier League match on Sunday. However, Howe was pleased with his team's response, particularly in the first half. “It was always a difficult game and when they (Forest) took the early lead you know you have a big task,” Howe said. “I thought we were great with the ball and looked dynamic but then a couple of frailties showed in terms of defending set plays.”
Despite the team's eventual 4-3 win, Howe recognized that there were areas for improvement, particularly in the second half. “When you win and you have things to improve, that is a good starting point. That's what I'll take away from today,” he said. Howe emphasized the importance of reflection and improvement, stating, “We can reflect on that (second) 45 minutes and there are things that we can do better. We pride ourselves on doing better and getting the details right.”
Howe was effusive in his praise for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, who scored twice to reach 50 Premier League goals. “It is huge and when he plays like he did in the first half, he is massive for us,” Howe said. Isak's performance was highlighted by his pace and timing, particularly on his second goal. “He showed his pace and the timing of the run (for his second goal) was excellent. He’s a big player,” Howe added.
