EPL: Chelsea Suffer Heavy Defeat at Brighton in Premier League Clash

Kaoru Mitoma and Yankuba Minteh scored as Brighton dominated Chelsea in a 3-0 Premier League victory, inflicting a heavy defeat on the Blues.

Kaoru Mitoma's spectacular goal and Yankuba Minteh's double propelled Brighton & Hove Albion to a resounding 3-0 victory over Chelsea in the Premier League. This triumph marked the Seagulls' second win over the Blues in less than a week, reversing a trend of four consecutive defeats in their head-to-head encounters.

The Amex Stadium was far from a welcoming venue for Chelsea's returning players on Valentine's Day. Marc Cucurella was met with boos every time he touched the ball, while Moisés Caicedo made his presence felt with some robust challenges. The visitors' frustration mounted as they squandered early opportunities, with Cole Palmer sending two efforts off-target and Noni Madueke succumbing to injury just 21 minutes into the match.

Kaoru Mitoma reprised his role as matchwinner against Chelsea, scoring the opener with a moment of brilliance. He expertly controlled Bart Verbruggen's long pass with a sublime touch, before precision-firing into the bottom corner.

Chelsea's woes deepened as Enzo Fernández's header was disallowed due to a push on Joël Veltman. Brighton capitalized on the reprieve, doubling their lead through Yankuba Minteh. A defensive mix-up involving Levi Colwill and Filip Jörgensen presented Minteh with the opportunity, which he seized by cutting inside Marc Cucurella and finishing with composure.

Brighton's dominance continued as Georginio Rutter and Carlos Baleba both had attempts thwarted. Minteh then sealed his brace and Brighton's third goal in the 63rd minute. Despite Levi Colwill's protests of a foul, Minteh combined with Danny Welbeck, evaded Cucurella once more, and fired past Jörgensen via a deflection off Trevoh Chalobah.

A swift counterattack initiated by Rutter ended with Mitoma testing Jörgensen, who later gifted the ball to João Pedro. However, the Brazilian substitute squandered the chance with a wild shot, ensuring Brighton's 3-0 lead remained intact.

Brighton's dominance continued until the final whistle, with the forward missing a headed opportunity that sailed over the crossbar. Additionally, Filip Jörgensen made a crucial intervention, deflecting Joël Veltman's shot onto the post. Despite these near-misses, Brighton had already secured a convincing 3-0 victory.

This win marked a triumphant end to Brighton's five-match winless streak at home in the Premier League. Furthermore, the Seagulls took advantage of Chelsea's struggles on the road, extending the Blues' dismal record to just two wins from their last eight league matches since Boxing Day. Cole Palmer's visible frustration towards the end of the match epitomized Chelsea's disappointment.
