EPL: Nottingham Forest Thrash Brighton 7-0 with Chris Wood Hat-Trick

Nottingham Forest consolidated third place in the Premier League with a resounding 7-0 win over Brighton, thanks to a hat-trick from Chris Wood and goals from Morgan Gibbs-White, Neco Williams, and Jota Silva.



Nottingham Forest reaffirmed their European aspirations with a resounding 7-0 victory over Brighton at the City Ground, thanks in large part to Chris Wood's impressive hat-trick. This emphatic win solidified Forest's grip on third place in the Premier League.


Following their disappointing 5-0 loss to Bournemouth in their previous outing, Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo had cautioned that the result served as “a warning for everybody.” Eager to bounce back, Forest made an ideal start against Brighton, taking the lead in the 12th minute through Lewis Dunk's own goal, which came courtesy of Morgan Gibbs-White's low delivery.


With momentum on their side, Forest soon doubled their lead, as Morgan Gibbs-White once again played a pivotal role. This time, he glanced Anthony Elanga's corner beyond Bart Verbruggen at the near post, handing Forest a commanding two-goal advantage.


The one-sided contest showed no signs of abating, with Neco Williams and Chris Wood both coming close to scoring for the hosts. Wood eventually added a third goal for Forest, heading home from Anthony Elanga's exceptional delivery. This strike further emphasized Forest's control over the match.


Despite facing a three-goal deficit, Brighton came agonizingly close to pulling a goal back before halftime. However, Danny Welbeck's powerful drive was expertly tipped onto the underside of the bar by Matz Sels, ensuring Forest's lead remained intact.


In the second half, Brighton saw plenty of the ball but struggled to create clear-cut chances. In contrast, Forest continued to thrive, with Elanga racing to the byline to set up a simple close-range finish for Wood, securing the hosts' fourth goal of the afternoon.


Things went from bad to worse for Brighton just six minutes later when Tariq Lamptey fouled Morgan Gibbs-White in the box, allowing Wood to seal his hat-trick from the penalty spot. This goal marked Wood's 17th Premier League strike of the season, further compounding Brighton's misery.


With the match all but over, Forest continued to attack at will, adding two late goals to round off a dream afternoon. Neco Williams scored a clinical finish in the six-yard box, before Jota Silva netted his first-ever Premier League goal, sealing a resounding 7-0 victory for the hosts.


This win extended Forest's impressive league form on home soil, with seven wins from their last nine matches. In contrast, Brighton suffered their heaviest league defeat since 1958, a result that will undoubtedly be a major setback for Fabian Hurzeler's men.
