Bundesliga: Leipzig Held to Frustrating Goalless Draw at Augsburg
RB Leipzig were held to a goalless draw at Augsburg in the Bundesliga, despite creating several scoring opportunities.
Augsburg's winless streak against RB Leipzig stretched to 17 matches after the two teams played out a goalless Bundesliga draw at the WWK Arena. Augsburg had been building momentum, having gone unbeaten in their previous five matches to recover from a sluggish start to the season.
Leipzig, meanwhile, had ended their own four-match winless run with a victory over St. Pauli the previous weekend. The visitors came close to breaking the deadlock when Lutsharel Geertruida's 25-yard effort narrowly missed the left post. Chrislain Matsima also threatened with a header at the back post, which Péter Gulácsi gathered.
Augsburg held their own against their more fancied opponents throughout the first half, and they had a penalty appeal waved away by the referee for a potential handball by Ridle Baku. David Raum then tested Finn Dahmen a couple of minutes later. Augsburg came closest to taking the lead six minutes before halftime, but Péter Gulácsi produced an impressive save to deny Alexis Claude-Maurice's effort from just outside the area.

Despite their impressive record at WWK Arena, where they have remained unbeaten since 2017, Leipzig struggled to capitalize on their opportunities in the second half. Xavi Simons came close, with his effort from outside the area narrowly missing the left post. Benjamin Šeško also had a header blocked from point-blank range.
Augsburg's attacking threat waned in the second half, but they continued to hold their own against Leipzig. The visitors, however, began to look more likely to score a late winner. In the closing stages, Kosta Nedeljković almost snatched victory for Leipzig, but his effort crashed off the crossbar, ensuring the match ended in a stalemate.
The draw sees Augsburg remain 12th in the Bundesliga table, while Leipzig stay fourth but are now vulnerable to being overtaken by the teams chasing them. The result marks a missed opportunity for Leipzig to consolidate their position in the top four.
