After a sterile first half, the contest sprang to life following the restart, with Dortmund doubling their advantage through Maximilian Beier. Beier ghosted into the penalty area, steering home Ramy Bensebaini's first-time cross with precision.

Heidenheim refused to give up, firing back immediately through Mathias Honsak's delicate left-footed finish. However, despite reducing the deficit to one, Heidenheim's response was lackluster, with their only notable chance falling to skipper Patrick Mainka, who mis-hit his strike, allowing Gregor Kobel to make a comfortable save.
