Ajax Drawn Against Eintracht Frankfurt in Europa League

Ajax will face Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League round of 16, marking the first competitive encounter between the two teams.

Ajax, the current leaders of the Eredivisie, have been drawn against Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Europa League round of 16. This matchup marks the first competitive encounter between the two teams, with their only previous meeting being a friendly game in August 2020.

Ajax secured their spot in the round of 16 by defeating Royale Union Saint-Gilloise (RUSG) 3-2 on aggregate. The Amsterdam side won the first leg 2-0 in Brussels, with Christian Rasmussen and Jority Mokio scoring in the second half. Although Ajax lost the second leg 2-1 in extra time, they advanced to the next round due to their aggregate lead.

Ajax's last appearance in the Europa League round of 16 was in the 2020/21 season, when they convincingly defeated Swiss side Young Boys 5-0 over two legs. This season, they will face Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt, who have a reputation for being a formidable opponent in European competitions.

The only previous encounter between Ajax and Eintracht Frankfurt was a friendly game in August 2020, which Ajax won 2-1. Mohamed Kudus and Quincy Promes scored for Ajax in that match. By drawing Eintracht Frankfurt, Ajax avoided a rematch with Olympique Lyon, whom they faced in the semi-finals of the 2016/17 UEFA Europa League campaign.

The upcoming matches between Ajax and Eintracht Frankfurt are scheduled to take place on March 6th and 13th. The first leg will be played in Amsterdam, followed by the second leg in Frankfurt.
