Transfer: Emiliano Martinez Leaves FC Midtjylland for Palmeiras
Palmeiras have signed Uruguayan international Emiliano Martinez from Danish champions FC Midtjylland on a permanent transfer.
Palmeiras have secured the signing of 25-year-old Uruguayan international Emiliano Martinez from Danish champions FC Midtjylland. Martinez spent 2.5 years with FC Midtjylland, developing into a key player for the club.
Football director Peter Sand praised Martinez's efforts, saying, “Emiliano has been a key player for us and developed into one of our biggest profiles in midfield. His performances have lifted the whole team, and during his time with us he has crowned his efforts with a place in the Uruguayan national team. We are incredibly proud to have played a part in his journey and development.”
Martinez did not attend FC Midtjylland's training camp in Portugal earlier this month, nor did he participate in the Europa League match against Ludogorets. Instead, he remained in Uruguay, maintaining his physical fitness in agreement with FC Midtjylland. Palmeiras made an offer for Martinez shortly after the New Year, leading to an agreement that it was in the best interest of all parties for Martinez to stay in South America.

Peter Sand acknowledged that Martinez's departure was always part of the plan, saying, “There was always a plan that Emiliano would move on at some point. The move to Palmeiras is a fantastic opportunity for him, and it also confirms that we as a club are succeeding in our strategy of developing players and ensuring that they get the right opportunities at the right time.”
Palmeiras, currently runners-up in Brazil, also had a successful campaign in the Copa Libertadores last season, reaching the last 16. The signing of Martinez is expected to bolster their squad as they pursue further success.
