Sir Jim Ratcliffe Heckled by Manchester United Supporters Over £66 Matchday Ticket Prices

Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe was confronted by angry fans over the club's decision to raise matchday ticket prices to £66, with no concessions for children or pensioners.

Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe was confronted by his own fans as he left Craven Cottage on Sunday night, amidst growing frustration over the club's decision to raise matchday ticket prices. The increase, which saw prices rise to £66 per game with no concessions for children or pensioners, has sparked widespread discontent among supporters, with hundreds attending protests at Old Trafford to express their displeasure.

In response to the protests, Sir Jim Ratcliffe doubled down on his decision to raise prices, despite many fans already being priced out of attending matches. He stated, “I don't think it makes sense for a Manchester United ticket to cost less than a ticket to see Fulham. I don't want to end up in a position where the genuine local fans can't afford to come, but I do want to optimise the ticketing. We need to find a balance. And you can't be popular all the time either.”

Fans were seen harassing Ratcliffe after the game as he tried to leave, with many shouting abuse and questioning the decisions made at the top of the club. One fan was heard shouting, “£66... you are taking the p***,” as Ratcliffe rolled down his window, expecting the supporters to be seeking photos. Another fan pleaded, “What are you doing, mate? We're locals. Come on, sort it out.” The chants continued, with some fans comparing Ratcliffe unfavorably to the Glazers, Manchester United's previous owners, saying, “You're worse than the Glazers” and “We pay triple their fans, our prices should be a third of Fulham's.”

As Ratcliffe's car rolled away, a group of fans began chanting, “Jim Ratcliffe's a c***, Jim Ratcliffe's a c*** - just like the Glazers, Jim Ratcliffe's a c***,” further highlighting the depth of feeling among supporters. The confrontation marked a low point in Ratcliffe's tenure as co-owner, as he struggles to connect with fans who feel increasingly disenfranchised by the club's decisions.
