Ryan Grubb Out as Seahawks' OC After One Season
Ryan Grubb is out as the Seahawks' offensive coordinator. Learn more about the team's decision and what's next for Seattle.
The Seattle Seahawks have parted ways with offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, just 17 games into his tenure. Grubb was hired before the start of the season but failed to make a lasting impact.
The decision was made on Monday, following the Seahawks' season finale against the Los Angeles Rams. Grubb's brief stint as offensive coordinator has come to an end, leaving the team to explore new options for the upcoming season.
Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll was not quoted but his defensive coordinator Mike MacDonald was quoted saying that the team is seeking a strong leader for their offense. “We're looking for the right fit (and) the type of person that's going to come in and lead our offence,” MacDonald stated.

Ryan Grubb's tenure as the Seahawks' offensive coordinator was short-lived, lasting only one season. Grubb made the jump to the NFL after leaving the University of Washington, where he was set to become the head coach before the university decided to go in a different direction prior to the 2024 college season.
The Seattle Seahawks' offense had mixed results under Ryan Grubb's leadership, ranking 14th overall in the league. While they excelled in passing, ranking 8th, their rushing performance was a different story, finishing 28th.
In terms of scoring, the Seahawks ranked 18th in both points per game (22.1) and total points (375). Quarterback Geno Smith had a standout season, throwing for a career-high 4,320 yards, which was fourth-best in the league. However, he also threw the most interceptions (15) since his rookie year.
The Seahawks' running backs had varying degrees of success. Kenneth Walker III saw a significant drop in rushing yards, from 905 in 2023 to 573 this season, although he did miss five games. On the other hand, Walker's involvement in the passing game increased, with 46 receptions and 299 yards. Zach Charbonnet had a solid sophomore season, rushing for 569 yards and scoring eight touchdowns.
The Seahawks' receiving corps had some bright spots, particularly from rookie Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who had a breakout year with 1,130 yards and six touchdowns. D.K. Metcalf narrowly missed reaching 1,000 receiving yards for the third consecutive year, finishing just eight yards short.
With a 10-7 record, the Seahawks will hold the 18th pick in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
