Novak Djokovic to Miss Davis Cup Tie Against Denmark
World No. 1 Novak Djokovic will miss Serbia's Davis Cup tie against Denmark, citing a muscle injury that forced him to retire from the Australian Open.
Novak Djokovic, the world's top tennis player, will miss Serbia's upcoming Davis Cup clash against Denmark due to a muscle injury. Djokovic was forced to retire from his Australian Open semifinal match against Alexander Zverev and has now confirmed that he will not recover in time for the Davis Cup tie in Copenhagen.
“I will not play the Davis Cup, and the tournament in Doha in a few weeks is also still uncertain,” Djokovic told the Serbian press. This announcement comes as a blow to Serbia's chances in the Davis Cup, as Djokovic is a crucial player for the team. The Davis Cup match between Denmark and Serbia is scheduled to take place at the Royal Arena in Copenhagen from January 31 to February 1.
In Djokovic's absence, Serbia will rely on their other top-100 players, including Miomir Kecmanovic (number 51), Dusan Lajovic (80), and Hamad Medjedovic (98). Denmark, on the other hand, will field a team that includes Holger Rune, Elmer Møller (160), and August Holmgren (199) in men's singles. The tie will feature two singles matches on Friday and a double and two singles matches on Saturday.
Djokovic's injury woes began during his quarterfinal match against Carlos Alcaraz, and he was eventually forced to retire from his semifinal match against Zverev after losing the first set. His injury has now ruled him out of the Davis Cup tie, and his participation in the tournament in Doha remains uncertain.
