Moyes Back at Goodison: Everton Confirm Former Boss as New Manager

Everton have confirmed the appointment of David Moyes as their new manager, replacing Sean Dyche who was sacked earlier this week.

Everton Football Club has announced the appointment of David Moyes as their new manager, marking his return to the club after a decade-long absence. Moyes, 61, replaces Sean Dyche, who was sacked earlier this week after a two-year tenure.

Moyes previously managed Everton from 2002 to 2013, overseeing an 11-year period that was marked by relative stability and success. Upon his return, Moyes expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “It's great to be back! I enjoyed 11 wonderful and successful years at Everton and didn't hesitate when I was offered the opportunity to rejoin.”

Moyes has pledged to work closely with the club's owners, The Friedkin Group, to rebuild and restore Everton's fortunes. He emphasized the importance of unity and support, saying, “Now we need Goodison and all Evertonians to play their part in getting behind the players in this important season so we can move into our fabulous new stadium as a Premier League team.”

David Moyes' managerial career has been marked by several notable stints, including his initial 11-year tenure at Everton. In 2013, Moyes left the Toffees to succeed Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, but his time at Old Trafford was short-lived, lasting just one season.

Moyes has since managed West Ham United across two separate stints, from 2017 to 2018 and 2019 to 2024. During his second spell with the Hammers, Moyes achieved a significant milestone, leading the team to victory in the 2022/23 Europa Conference League.

Moyes returns to Everton at a critical juncture, with the club currently sitting in 16th place in the Premier League. Executive Chairman Marc Watts expressed his enthusiasm for Moyes' appointment, stating, “We are pleased that David is joining us at this pivotal time in Everton's history. With over a decade of experience at the club, he is the right leader to propel us through our final season at Goodison Park and into our new stadium.”

Watts emphasized the importance of Moyes' experience and leadership, saying, “We look forward to working with David to build the foundation of a new era for Everton.” The Blues will be hoping to turn their season around under Moyes' guidance, starting with their upcoming match against Aston Villa on January 15.
