Minnesota Vikings Lock Up Head Coach Kevin O'Connell with New Deal

The Minnesota Vikings have signed head coach Kevin O'Connell to a multi-year contract extension, securing his future with the team.

The Minnesota Vikings announced on Tuesday that they have signed head coach Kevin O'Connell to a multi-year extension. While the details of the extension have not been disclosed, this move ensures that O'Connell will remain at the helm of the team beyond the 2025 season, when his previous contract was set to expire.

O'Connell, 39, has been instrumental in shaping the Vikings' culture and has established himself as a strong leader who connects with his players. Team owner/president Mark Wilf praised O'Connell, saying, “Kevin is exactly who we believed him to be when we named him as our head coach - an innovative play-caller, an excellent communicator and a strong leader who motivates and connects with his players.” Wilf added, “He has helped establish a culture that positions us for sustained success, and he will continue to set the standard we need as we pursue a championship for Vikings fans.”

Under O'Connell's leadership, the Vikings achieved an impressive 14-3 record in the past season but fell short in the wild-card round of the NFL Playoffs against the Los Angeles Rams. Since O'Connell took over in 2022, the team has compiled a 34-17 overall record. Notably, he is the only coach in Vikings history with multiple 13-win seasons.

O'Connell expressed his gratitude to the Wilf family for their continued support, saying, “Holding this prestigious position is something I never take for granted, and I want to express my sincere gratitude to the Wilf family for their unwavering belief in what we are building together.” He also acknowledged his excitement to continue working with the team, stating, “I can't wait to get back to work with all of them as we continue to build upon the high standard we've set and the positive environment we've created.”

O'Connell also thanked the Vikings fans, saying, “To Vikings fans, you are the best in the NFL. There is no greater joy than leading our team in front of you each Sunday and experiencing the home-field advantage you create. I'm thrilled for the years ahead.”
