Miguel Herrera Appointed as New Costa Rica Head Coach

Costa Rica has named Miguel Herrera as its new head coach, tasking him with guiding the team to a fourth consecutive World Cup finals appearance.

Miguel Herrera, the former manager of Mexico's national team, has been named as the new head coach of Costa Rica. The appointment was announced by the Costa Rican Football Federation (FCRF) in a statement.

Herrera, a 56-year-old former defender, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He previously led Mexico to the round of 16 at the 2014 World Cup and secured a CONCACAF Gold Cup title in 2015. Herrera's appointment comes after Gustavo Alfaro departed as Costa Rica's coach in August to take charge of Paraguay's national team.

Claudio Vivas' tenure as Costa Rica's interim manager was short-lived, as he was relieved of his duties in November. The decision came on the heels of Costa Rica's disappointing exit from the CONCACAF Nations League quarter-finals.

Costa Rica is currently leading Group B in the second round of North America's World Cup qualifiers. As they aim to secure a fourth consecutive World Cup finals appearance, they will face off against Bahamas and Trinidad and Tobago in June.
