Liverpool Cruise into FA Cup Fourth Round with Convincing Victory

Find out how Diogo Jota and Trent Alexander-Arnold led Liverpool to a convincing victory over Accrington Stanley.

Liverpool secured a comfortable 4-0 win over League Two side Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup third round on Saturday. Diogo Jota and Trent Alexander-Arnold scored in the first half, while Jayden Danns and Federico Chiesa added to the tally after the break, showcasing the significant gap in quality between the two teams.

Despite their best efforts, Accrington Stanley struggled to contain Liverpool's attacking prowess. The visitors' spirited display was ultimately unable to prevent the Premier League and Champions League leaders from asserting their dominance. Liverpool's superior quality told as they countered Accrington's attacks with precision and ease.

The hosts broke the deadlock just before the half-hour mark, capitalizing on a swift counterattack. Trent Alexander-Arnold released Darwin Nunez down the right flank, and the Uruguayan delivered a pinpoint cross to Diogo Jota, who tapped in the opening goal with ease. This strike set the tone for Liverpool's convincing victory.

Rio Ngumoha, the 16-year-old Liverpool player who made history as the youngest to start a competitive match and FA Cup appearance, was substituted in the 72nd minute. His replacement, Jayden Danns, made an immediate impact, scoring four minutes later. Danns capitalized on Billy Crellin's save from Federico Chiesa, slotting the ball into the net.

Federico Chiesa marked his first goal for Liverpool in the 90th minute, firing into the bottom corner. This strike came after an earlier shot from Chiesa hit the woodwork. The Italian's goal capped off a convincing 4-0 win for Liverpool.

Darwin Nunez had opportunities to score early on but failed to connect with Harvey Elliott's headed cross and shot wide after Billy Crellin's save from Trent Alexander-Arnold. Accrington Stanley, who had no shots on target in the first half, nearly scored in the 57th minute when Josh Woods' shot rattled the crossbar at Anfield. Donald Love later headed over the bar from a Shaun Whalley cross, as Accrington struggled to apply pressure on the hosts.

Liverpool dominated the match, with Accrington Stanley holding just over 21% possession. The hosts' convincing 4-0 win sets them up for their next challenge, a Premier League visit to third-placed Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.
